The Local Governing Body at the College consists of parents, staff and members of the local community. It is responsible for the strategic leadership of the College and works closely with the Executive Principal, Head of College and Leadership Team in monitoring and promoting excellent opportunities, outcomes and life chances for all.

The Role of a Local Governing Body

The three core functions of committee are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Head of College is responsible for putting those policies and decisions into effect and for the day-to-day management of the College.

The precise role of each member will depend on what responsibilities s/he takes on. Most members will take responsibility for one of the portfolios – Finance; H&S; Data; Safeguarding/Child Protection; SEND; Teaching & Learning; Pastoral Care; Policies; HR – members are also encouraged to take on other responsibilities from time to time, but there is no requirement to do so.

Why become a Local Governing Body Member?

If you have an interest and passion in the ongoing development of Dawlish College to provide the best possible education in its broadest sense to the young people in this area, offering your time as a Local Governing Body member will allow you to contribute directly to that end.

If you are interested in joining the Local Governing Body at Dawlish College, please contact the Clerk to the Local Governing Body by email – charlotte.stoyle@estuaries.co.uk  who can arrange an informal meeting with members to discuss matters further and let you know if there are any current vacancies.
