Head's Welcome

Head of College Welcome

Welcome to Dawlish College.

It continues to be an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher at Dawlish College – the staff and students are second to none and take all of life’s challenges in their stride. Despite current uncertainties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to hold onto our core purpose in all that we do. Behind all of the decisions taken and measures put in place sits the balance between keeping staff and students safe whilst also providing them with a varied and exciting school experience.

Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be, where we have the highest expectations of staff and students alike and seek to provide challenge at every available opportunity. As a small school, we have a very proud record of holistic support, care and individual attention: the happiness and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and is a vital foundation for their growth and development. Our college has an atmosphere of creativity and positivity that is generated by the provision of excellent opportunities for every individual thereby maximising the outcomes and improving the life chances of the young people in our care.

As a parent myself, I understand that you want your child to be inspired, supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves within an environment that knows them and values them as an individual. Thank you for entrusting me with the care and education of your child, present or future, and I look forward to unlocking their ambitions as I get to know them and work closely with you.

Student Of The Month

Congratulations to Callum, our student of the month for March. It was clear from the many comments received why staff were thrilled to nominate him:

Callum is a brilliant student who works hard and acts on all advice given. He recently achieved an excellent grade in his unit 1 BTEC Sport exam which was down to his hard work and dedication. He is a polite and enthusiastic student in PE and is a pleasure to have in the group.

Callum is a perceptive and diligent student, who has an excellent sense of humour and displays great composure in the teeth of some lively debates on Animal Farm in English recently.

Callum completes every lesson with such positivity. He shows fantastic resilience, never giving up when challenged. He shows maturity beyond his years and is a delight to teach.

Callum is a fantastic student to have in the class. Callum approaches his learning seriously and is keen to do very well. Callum has demonstrated some sound understanding of the historical topics covered so far this academic year. His contributions to class discussions are always welcomed. If he continues with this very strong approach, I am very confident he will achieve beyond his MEG next Summer.

Callum is such a worthy student for this award as he is indeed an extremely diligent & delightful student. He’s always polite, helpful, positive & hard working. He tries his best and has a lovely sense of humour. I wish him all the success he deserves in Spanish and all his studies as I am sure he will be successful in any field he puts his hands on with his all-round, great manners approach.

Although Callum finds science challenging at times, his attitude is consistently impressive, and he is a pleasure to teach. Callum has a good work ethic and is always happy to communicate when he is finding the work challenging or if he wants clarification over anything. Furthermore, he is a willing participant in any discussion opportunity within our lessons. Well done Callum, this is much deserved.

Callum always arrives with a smile. He is a happy, hard-working member of the group who is always keen to help and support other members of the tutor group. He is always willing to have a go and do his best. A well-deserved accolade – well done!
