Head's Welcome

Head of College Welcome

Welcome to Dawlish College.

It continues to be an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher at Dawlish College – the staff and students are second to none and take all of life’s challenges in their stride. Despite current uncertainties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to hold onto our core purpose in all that we do. Behind all of the decisions taken and measures put in place sits the balance between keeping staff and students safe whilst also providing them with a varied and exciting school experience.

Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be, where we have the highest expectations of staff and students alike and seek to provide challenge at every available opportunity. As a small school, we have a very proud record of holistic support, care and individual attention: the happiness and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and is a vital foundation for their growth and development. Our college has an atmosphere of creativity and positivity that is generated by the provision of excellent opportunities for every individual thereby maximising the outcomes and improving the life chances of the young people in our care.

As a parent myself, I understand that you want your child to be inspired, supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves within an environment that knows them and values them as an individual. Thank you for entrusting me with the care and education of your child, present or future, and I look forward to unlocking their ambitions as I get to know them and work closely with you.

Student Of The Month

Congratulations to our latest Students Of the Month - Hannah and Alfred. Both were nominated by staff for their effort and contribution to college life. Here's a few of the nominations to show just why they deserved this award:

Hannah is a pleasure to teach. She is super organised and efficient in her work ethic, and this is evident in the work that she produces. She contributes to class discussions and shows effective leadership skills during group work. Well done, Hannah, a thoroughly well-deserved award.

Hannah is the most delightful, hardworking, mature student who comes to college ready to be the very best version of herself. She is an active member of our college and someone who I know I could rely on should I ever need someone to help me promote the college or support younger students - Well done Hannah - well deserved!

Hannah is an absolute pleasure to teach. She has a great attitude to learning and takes pride in her work. Hannah consistently produces work of a high standard and acts on feedback to improve it further. Hannah works well with others in the class and works collaboratively with those that she sits with supporting them all in their learning.

Hannah has many excellent qualities but the thing I admire most is her tenacity and resolve to do the very best she can. She perseveres with all tasks and tackles even the most difficult work with determination. Hannah's maturity allows her to ask when unsure, guide others when necessary, and she has a deep-rooted and witty sense of humour!

Hannah is a very conscientious and diligent pupil. Hannah is hardworking both inside and outside of the college and is therefore making very pleasing progress in her historical studies. Well done Hannah on this achievement.

Staff were equally complimentary about Alfred:

Alfred has been a very keen and enthusiastic linguist. He enjoys speaking Spanish and he has been helpful and supportive of other students in the class as well. I selected him to be a Language Ambassador to help year 6 students learn new language skills which was a success. Well done, Alfred, keep up your positive attitude!

Alfred is an outstanding Drama and Music student. He has fully committed to each production and used the opportunity to showcase his dramatic and musical talents. (He also looked lovely in a dress and wig as an ‘ugly sister’!) Alfred will be taking to the stage, yet again, as the male lead 'Nathan Detroit' in our next production of Guys and Dolls.

Alfred is a really engaged, witty, and personable young man. He always comes into lessons with a 'can do' attitude and gets stuck into the work set. He is equally at home working independently, as well as in a pair or group, and is often found helping his fellow classmates out.

Alfred has a fantastic imagination and always creates weird and wonderful ideas in Art. He has a growing range of technical capabilities and regularly contributes to class discussions.

A very good student of Science, with a strong ability to verbally articulate very complex ideas in lessons. He has a natural curiosity and asks interesting and relevant questions with regards to topics we are studying. He is a pleasant and polite member of the classroom and always tries in lessons. He is a delight and a great asset to his classmates.
