Welcome to Dawlish College.
It continues to be an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher at Dawlish College – the staff and students are second to none and take all of life’s challenges in their stride. Despite current uncertainties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to hold onto our core purpose in all that we do. Behind all of the decisions taken and measures put in place sits the balance between keeping staff and students safe whilst also providing them with a varied and exciting school experience.
Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be, where we have the highest expectations of staff and students alike and seek to provide challenge at every available opportunity. As a small school, we have a very proud record of holistic support, care and individual attention: the happiness and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and is a vital foundation for their growth and development. Our college has an atmosphere of creativity and positivity that is generated by the provision of excellent opportunities for every individual thereby maximising the outcomes and improving the life chances of the young people in our care.
As a parent myself, I understand that you want your child to be inspired, supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves within an environment that knows them and values them as an individual. Thank you for entrusting me with the care and education of your child, present or future, and I look forward to unlocking their ambitions as I get to know them and work closely with you.
Congratulations to Olivia and Keison for being awarded Student Of The Month.
In November, we were delighted to award Student of The Month to Olivia. It was clear from the comments received why staff were delighted to nominate Olivia:
“Olivia is not only an outstanding student but is a total pleasure to spend time with – this is clear as she is so highly respected by her peers. She applies herself fully to her home and school work, often going above and beyond. Taking Performing Arts was an act of bravery on her part and she has grown in confidence so much that she performed at The Shaftesbury Theatre in a lead role in “The Crucible”. She is an inspiration to others!”
"Olivia is a fantastic student who also goes above and beyond in all aspects of her learning. I had the pleasure to teach her last year as well and she has developed so much in her ability and confidence in a short space of time. This is all down to her dedication in the subject! She is kind, caring and approaches all aspects of school life in a positive way. I am so proud of you Olivia. You are a star!”
“Olivia always gives everything her best effort; showing determination and resilience when she finds something difficult. She uses her initiative when help is needed and does all of this with a smile on her face and with great politeness.”
This month, the award was given to Keison for his outstanding effort and achievement in all aspects of school life. Once again, staff were extremely complimentary about Keison’s attitude to learning:
“Keison is a pleasure to teach! He's particularly good at analysing text and character and he seems to enjoy a good story with plot twists and gritty characters. (He's also a great entertainer - magic with a Rubik's cube!!)”
“Keison is a highly motivated, positive, and reliable student who should be very proud of his excellent attitude and achievement at all times in class.”
“Keison has been a delight to teach in French so far this term. He puts in a great effort into class work as well as homework always showing excellent understanding and pushing himself to do his best following his teachers' advice. Félicitations Keison!”
“Keison has worked tremendously hard in Music this year and his composition work is showing huge improvement. He is an awesome member of the group. Keep it going Keison”
“Amazingly consistent effort during science lessons, Keison diligently completes all tasks and ensures extension work is completed to a very high standard too
