Welcome to Dawlish College.
It continues to be an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher at Dawlish College – the staff and students are second to none and take all of life’s challenges in their stride. Despite current uncertainties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to hold onto our core purpose in all that we do. Behind all of the decisions taken and measures put in place sits the balance between keeping staff and students safe whilst also providing them with a varied and exciting school experience.
Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be, where we have the highest expectations of staff and students alike and seek to provide challenge at every available opportunity. As a small school, we have a very proud record of holistic support, care and individual attention: the happiness and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and is a vital foundation for their growth and development. Our college has an atmosphere of creativity and positivity that is generated by the provision of excellent opportunities for every individual thereby maximising the outcomes and improving the life chances of the young people in our care.
As a parent myself, I understand that you want your child to be inspired, supported and challenged to be the best version of themselves within an environment that knows them and values them as an individual. Thank you for entrusting me with the care and education of your child, present or future, and I look forward to unlocking their ambitions as I get to know them and work closely with you.
We are excited to announce that we are continuing our Sport Ambassador initiative within the PE department. We are looking to expand our team of Sport Ambassadors so students have the opportunity to apply for the role. As a Sport Ambassador, students would be given a leadership role where they take on more responsibility within the college PE department.
Role of the Sport Ambassadors
Help lead and organise primary events
Attend coaching and leadership courses
Organise inter-school competitions
Log hours of volunteering in personal log book
Promote school sport across the college
Mentor younger sports ambassadors and leaders
The process for application is in three stages:
· Letter of application
If your child would like to apply for a Sports Ambassador role the first step is to complete a letter of application. This letter should include their name, information about their interests / hobbies and why they would like to become a Sports Ambassador, and to be no more than 2 sides of A4. This needs to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday 23rd June 2021
· Teaching episode
Students that are successful with their letter will then plan a teaching episode that will be taught to Year 7 students. The episode will be around 10 minutes and is a chance for students to showcase leadership qualities and how they would explain and break down skills.
The final stage of the process is an interview where students will get to share their ideas of being a Sport Ambassador and what they think they can bring to the role.
If you have any questions about the application, please contact me
The deadline date for the letter of application is Wednesday 23rd June 2021. Sports Ambassadors will be chosen across current Year 8 and Year 9 students.
