On Friday 10th March the U14 girls’ football team travelled to Exeter University to play in the Catherine Fraser Memorial Tournament. Catherine worked behind the scenes at Exeter City, but in 2015 died of breast cancer. Her family organised the tournament in her honour.
With 14 school teams attending it was always going to be a very competitive tournament. In the group stages Dawlish had to play Exmouth CC and Maynards twice, this resulted in 1 win, 2 draws and a loss. The girls had been drawn into the plate competition and felt that they could do very well in it, and so they did. Once again they had to play Cranbrook and Torbride twice, and came away with 3 wins and a draw. Goal scorers included Sasha Mole (Y9), Elli Hawkins-Way (Y9), and Magenta Fraser (Y8).
In the plate final they came up against a very strong and older Saltash team who scored two early goals, and Dawlish found it hard to come back from this. However, the girls played some excellent football and were over the moon to be plate runners-up.
The team were Sasha Mole (Y9), Elli Hawkins-Way (Y9), Tilli Hawkins-Way (Y9), Lauren Blick (Y9), Abi Blick (Y9), Magenta Fraser (Y8), Daisy Pullen (Y8), and Tia Festa (Y7).
