For the first time Dawlish entered a team into the first stage of the County Cup competition. For all of the team this was their first experience of competitive cricket and the girls improved their performance each match.
First up was Tiverton who looked very strong, Dawlish lost the toss and were put into bat first. Casey Hillidge top scored with 24 runs, and there was also good scores from Tia Festa and Kyla Butler. After the 7 overs Dawlish were 48-3. Good bowling from Josie Harman and Hilldige meant that Tiverton did not get runs easily. It was not until the last over that Tiverton started to add up the runs, and scored 50-0. The Dawlish girls were sad to lose the game by 2 runs, but it proved to them that they were able to play some good cricket.
Next Dawlish faced St Peter’s B. Dawlish once again lost the toss and batted first. This time a score of 86-1 was achieved and Dawlish felt like this was their game to win. Good fielding from Izzy Bullock, Ella Horrell and Molly Larkin helped to keep St Peter’s score low. Also a wicket maiden over from Hillidge helped win the game, with St Peter’s finishing on 68-2.
Last to face were St Lukes who looked very strong and had won all their games so far. This did not deter Dawlish and they set a good target of 61-2 for St Luke’s to chase. In the first few overs Dawlish reduced St Luke’s run rate and took a few wickets, it was not until the last over that St Luke’s dominated. Their score being 72-3. St Luke’s won the competition and now go through to the County final.
Dawlish played some good cricket and are looking forward to some more games this summer term. Well done girls!
