It’s been a fantastic start for the PE department and DCC students. Since September we have had various sporting clubs and new ventures starting to encourage students to be active.
Challenge Day has grown significantly in a very short time! Students attend at lunch to take part in challenges such as how many sit ups or how many baskets they can shoot in 1 minute; with a different challenge each week to compete in. We also have bench ball club, were teams or individuals can come and take part in a tournament as well as basketball, football and netball clubs. After half term we will be introducing trampolining, girls’ rugby and badminton. It has been great to see new faces amongst the regular attendees, especially the year 7s who have been super keen, but there’s plenty of space for more!
It has also been exciting to see students show their skills at other events, including open evening where we had a mixture of students showing their skills and game play in activities from basketball to zumba to bhangra dancing. Thank you to all that helped that evening.
We are delighted that five year 8 students have been selected this week to help with the Sports Partnership festivals linking with the primary schools. On Friday they were involved with the year three and four netball coaching session with umpired games and next time will be coaching and umpiring year five and six students from our partner primary schools.
Well done to all out students who have taken part in any of our clubs and we look forward to seeing you at the new ones after half term.
