Energy Transferred!

We are delighted to receive a donation from Zenergi, the school energy procurement company, towards school ties in the new school colours.

Rachel Wickham, Head of College, was thrilled to receive the cheque and said ‘this means we can provide a free tie to all of our current   students.’ Sue and Jenny from Zenergi, who came all the way from Southampton to present the cheque, said ‘ it was a fabulous opportunity to work with one of our partner schools.  We like to give something back when we can.’  The new ties will be worn in September when the college launches its new look logo and colours.

Normandy Welcome 2018

On Friday 22nd June, 38 very excited year 7 and 8 students from Dawlish Community College headed off for the sunny beaches of Normandy, France. For the second time in a row the weather was incredible, which made the trip even more enjoyable.

During their 3 night stay, the students visited some fantastic places, including a Goat Farm “La Saffrie”, where they got the opportunity to groom, feed, and milk the goats, as well as learning all about Goat farming. Tony, the owner was very impressed about how they listened and how good their French was! Gina  (year 7) was particularly impressive and could be a future “traductrice”. Ashley (year 7) volunteered to milk the Goats and received a certificate for his efforts.

They also visited the Arromanches 360° Cinema which was the highlight for many, as well as the D Day landings museum, the Bayeux Tapestry, the British and German War Cemeteries, and the Juno beach centre. Some wrote messages on crosses and laid them at the British Cemetery which was very moving.

During their stay they also got to see the statue of Bill Millin, the famous Scottish piper who piped the invasion forces onto the shores of France, and who lived in Dawlish until his death in August 2010. Our students felt very proud to be associated with a man who had made such a special contribution to that memorable day.

The evenings were also very entertaining, with a quiz evening, and a talent show, where we had many singers, including Callum (year 8) who played the guitar too.

Overall it was a fantastic trip, and one which the students and staff will hopefully remember forever. Our students behaved impeccably, and we received many compliments throughout the trip. One couple stopped us on the ferry to say how impressed they were with our students and that if ever they came back to earth they would like to come back to Dawlish Community College!
