Bicton College Experience day – July 2017
We had an extremely fun day out at Bicton College exploring different course options in July. Students signed up to various experience days where they were able to sample different careers from animal management to tree surgery, equestrian management and countryside and farm management. Students that attended the day were really excited about the different experiences they had had and it gave them a sample of what to expect if they attended Bicton College post 16.
We were very grateful to Bicton College for hosting this day for our students.
Work Experience and Careers Week at Dawlish Community College –July 2017
Dawlish Community College year 10 students have been given much praise from business and industry after their work experience placements this summer. Companies such as Flybe were particularly impressed with one of our year 11 students, Tyler Sluman, who managed to successfully get placed with them this year. Over 90 of our students held work experience placements this year.
Students who did not go out on work experience attended the Careers Week activities that were based at the College. These were varied and included careers talks, a session on how to find apprenticeships locally, nationally and globally and workshops facilitated by Exeter College and Newton Abbot College.
We invited a number of guest speakers from different professions into the college during Careers Week and also held an interactive STEM session with the Mayor of Dawlish, an RAF technician, two experienced representatives form the MET office and a lecturer from Exeter University. During this session they all shared their enthusiasm and passion for their professions, explaining why they thought they had the best job in the world!
