24-Hour Concert 2017

On Friday 3rd February at 1.30pm, the fourth DCC 24-Hour Concert began. For those of you who have never heard of this before, the concert is continuous without any breaks for the whole 24 hours. Students can buy tickets for friends and family and get sponsored for taking part.

This year the event raised funds for the Music Department and the Snooky Trust, a Dawlish-based charity that helps young adults with physical illnesses in the local community.

The concert was a huge success with performers coming from all years, and included many students who were appearing on stage for the first time. This year’s theme was films, and students were expected to dress up as a character from a movie. We had Rambo, Alice in Wonderland and the Cheshire Cat. Katniss even made an appearance, as did the Mad Hatter, Cruella de Vil and Darth Vader!

Our sincerest thanks go to the Rotary Club of Dawlish who sponsored the event and have offered to sponsor next year’s concert already. The concert was also supported by the Earl and Countess of Devon. Thank you very much for all of your help in putting this concert on.

The twilight hours are always the most difficult and students took it upon themselves to work out the programme, ensuring that the concert did not stop. May I please take this opportunity to thank all students and staff, especially Tom Peters and Annette Moore who helped out for the full 24 hours. Tom also designed and built the fantastic set; without him, these concerts would not happen. Could I ask for all sponsor money to be handed in to the Finance Hatch at College before the half term break.
